About Stephen E. Brown, MD

I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and attended Florida State University for my undergraduate degree in Biology.  I went to medical school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia, where I graduated in 1999.

I attended residency in psychiatry at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, and at the Medical College of Virginia.  I was a Lieutenant in the Navy for 5 years, and after leaving the Navy I moved to Richmond, which I now happily call my home.  I began practice in the Tri-Cities area in 2005, then decided to open my own practice in 2008.

Ongoing Training

Psychiatry is one of the fastest changing fields of medicine.  Researchers are constantly learning new ways to treat psychiatric illness, as well as re-considering treatments that have been used for years.  This involves not only medications, but psychotherapy and alternative (or "natural") treatments as well.I take my responsibility to keep up to date on advances in psychiatry very seriously.  For this reason, I read medical and psychiatric journals regularly, and I also attend at least one comprehensive educational conference each year.
